What is the difference between Grants and Bingos?
MCSC funds organizations in the form of grant money, bingo or a combination of the two.
Can I just sign up to do a bingo?
No. Bingos are part of how MCSC provides funding.
How many volunteers are required to work a bingo?
7 volunteers are required and they MUST be at least 18 years of age.
What are the deadlines?
MCSC will accept applications continuously throughout the year
How much should we apply for?
There is no minimum or maximum amount that organizations can apply for, and every project is unique. A larger grant amount is approximately $25,000. However, it is best to outline the total project costs including expenses and other anticipated revenue.
Who reviews the applications?
MCSC staff initially reviews all applications to ensure completeness. MCSC’s Board of Directors/Council is responsible for the allocation of dollars and/or bingo events to qualifying groups. The Council is made up of a group of volunteers representing all areas of the Province.
Can I email or fax my application?
Yes you may as long as the application form has all of the appropriate signatures completed on the form.
How long does it take to process applications?
Normally it takes 3 to 4 months for applications to be processed.
Can we meet with Council to present our application?
Due to the number of applications received, it is not possible for Council to schedule meetings with the applicants. MCSC staff members are available for assistance with applications, to meet with applicants if required, and to answer questions.
Is Manitoba Community Services Council a government department?
No. MCSC works at arms length from government.
Can we re-apply?
Yes. Organizations may re-apply after 18 months of a previous grant approval AND all reporting requirements have been fulfilled. MCSC should not be considered a permanent funding source.
Does Manitoba Community Services Council have a conflict of interest policy?
Yes. If a Council Member has a personal connection with an application, they declare a conflict of interest and are removed from the decision making on that particular grant.
